Handicapped Member Services

photo of lady in a wheelchair with a guide dog To make your trip more enjoyable if you have special needs, please email us at access@nippon2007.us.

In addition to those who regularly need access provisions at conventions, people with other physical limitations may wish some support.

Japan is a place very different from the other locations that have hosted Worldcons.  While this is a good thing, it does mean that unexpected obstacles may appear.  For example, while the Convention Hotels have American style rooms, some other hotels will have Japanese style rooms with tatami and futon, which may not be suitable for someone who usually isn't considered to have special needs.

Scooters

We still have two scooters available for rent.  Contact us using the access@ address above.

We have secured four scooters which may be rented.  We will also have free wheelchairs for people who request them in advance.  We will have a few extra wheelchairs for people who unexpectedly need them.

Two scooters made by Pride can be rented from Alcare Corporation.  The rental fee from the 29th to the 3rd is ¥ 25000.  This scooter will carry up to 336 lbs (153 kg).  Both of these wheelchairs have tentatively been rented.  More information about this scooter can be found at http://www.alcarecorp.co.jp/products/product_3/index_.html. (Site is in Japanese)

In addition, two scooters may be rented from Sci-tec Corporation.  These scooters are made in Japan.  The rental fee from the 29th to the 3rd is ¥ 20000.  The permissible capacity of this scooter is 264 lbs (120 kg).  More information about this scooter can be found at: http://www.cc-ai.org/sukuta/pages/sukuta03.html.  (Site is in Japanese)

The rental fee there must be paid in cash.
